Southwest Spanish Craftsmen furniture is a more transitional version of Spanish Colonial, New Mexican, or Santa Fe style furniture. Our craftsmen build our furniture with precision and by hand.  Classic mortise and tenon joinery, wood nail heads, and inset doors and drawers are characteristic of New Mexico style furnishings. The end result is impeccably constructed, authentic and timeless furniture that is hand crafted for homes throughout the Southwest and beyond.

Ernest Thompson Furniture was founded on the values of artisan woodworking.  In New Mexico, this has been characterized by a constant evolution of function and style. This style constantly changes as we interact with our homes and offices in new and different ways. We build each and every Ernest Thompson product to order. From the style of your piece to the size and finish, our goal is to create impeccably designed original pieces that perfectly suit your home and lifestyle.

Sombraje, or “branch covered screen”, is a centuries-old regional tradition of creating window coverings from gathered twigs and branches. Ernest Thompson’s Sombraje collection utilizes salt cedar, cottonwood, willow, and hand-peeled willow twigs. This wood is hand gathered, individually cut to size, and individually pieced into sturdy, finished basswood panel frames. Sombraje products feel right at home in every style from southwestern adobes, coastal beach houses, to mountain lodges.

Taos Furniture of Santa Fe embodies the Old Spanish carpenter style. These Spanish carpenters are attributed with the creation of the traditional furniture making process of Northern New Mexico and ultimately what has come to be known as Santa Fe style furniture. Today, our craftsmen are still utilizing the techniques employed by Spanish carpenters over 400 years ago. These techniques result in high-quality, rustic furniture that will be a part of your home for many years.
