The Museum of New Mexico Collection
First conceived of in the 1700’s, pie safes were simple elevated wood cupboards with doors and shelves. As the name implies, they were intended to store baked goods.
This piece features distinct New Mexico motifs-the Velarde chip carving and carved spindles found on Northern New Mexico furniture and adopted by several 20th century New Mexican artisans.
Shown in Alder with Seville Light Finish.
